The Power of Words

It was a beautiful cool sunny day. A husband and his wife were just sitting and watching their babies. They were laughing and talking like they were old friends that didn’t have a care in the world, the babies were nice and quiet and they looked beautiful. Then it happens, all of their joy swept away like a tsunami taking away cars.

A man had come into their home and killed their children and Marlin’s wife, every single baby died except for one.  Marlin was in shock, he didn’t know what to do. He just, sat there for a while mourning the loss of his children and wife. He loved all of them equally and he will always miss them.

It was the first day of school! Marlin dropped off his son and talked with some other parents. It was a beautiful day and everyone was smiling. Until finally Marlin’s son ventures off, into the street and he was kidnapped! His son is screaming "Dad help me please, dad, dad!"  His father can't do anything. He is frozen, like a pop-cycle. 

Marlin does not know that the kidnappers aren't just kidnapping his son they are sending him to his death. When they get back to their torture chamber he is kept in a cage he is barely fed. He hopes his father is coming to save him odds are he won't be able to get him on time. He is going to be sent to a serial killer. He is most likely going to die.

Marlin will not give up. He will never give up. He does not care if he dies he just wants his son to live. Although he is trying his hardest he is lost and has no idea where he is. Luckily someone with a heart cares enough to help him save his son. Her name is Dorothy. She leads him to where she thinks the serial killer is. She is right and Marlin saves his son from being brutally tortured to death. 

This powerful movie is a must see. It was amazing and emotional. It is an instant classic but before you see it you should probably know the title. You already do. The story I just described… was Finding Nemo.

Prediction

In J.R.R.’s There and Back Again, Bilbo Baggins was a hobbit who wanted to be left alone in the comfort of his home. But a wizard named Gandalf came with a band of homeless dwarves. Soon Bilbo was drawn into their journey. I predict that Bilbo will join the quest and fight a fight that isn’t his.

I think my prediction is right because it is a fantasy story so anything could happen. Also a Gandalf asked Bilbo “Would you like to go on an adventure?" In addition when Bilbo is talking to Gandalf he asked “Are you the one that told such wonderful stories about dragons and goblins and giants and the rescue of princesses.” Those are just some example.

I believe that this story is similar to The Tale of Despereaux because they are both fantasy and the main characters go on a journey fighting evil. In Deaspereaux’s case the treasure is saving the girl he loves. In Bilbo’s Case the treasure is a ring that can save all of the dwarves. Concluding my paragraph I believe that my prediction is logical and could very likely happen. 

Cole Mathews

Lonely and afraid a 17 year old boy named Cole Mathews resorts to a life of crime and violence in order to cope with all of his troubles in life. When he beats up a boy named Peter, Cole is sent to a remote island in order to transform into a new person. Cole pretends that he wants to change, when he gets to the island he is not even willing to stay for a day.

I know there is a psychological explanation for Cole’s actions. His father beat him constantly and when he wasn’t beating him he was never around. His mother on the other hand, would never stop her husband from beating her son, she would just watch and slip underneath the cowardly cold blanket of alcohol. In my opinion those are the reasons Cole feels he needs to beat up on other people, just like his father did to him.

To cocky for his own good Cole tries to escape, swimming against the below freezing  crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. He is pushed back to shore and is frozen, like a popsicle. Trying to swim against an ocean isn’t a good idea. When he can finally move he sets fire to the cabin that he was suppose to stay in. The cabin burns along with Cole’s safety, and warmth. The last stupid thing he does is try to wrestle a bear. He is nearly mauled to death and has to survive on eating his own skin and a dead mouse.He did learn something from all his mistakes; he learned that he isn't stronger and bigger than everything.

After being mauled by a bear he  finds himself lying helplessly in a hospital bed. He knows he needs to change in order to prosper and live a good life. Just like John in the book Crash he changes and becomes a role model to everybody. He also becomes friends with the person he use to bully, just like Crash.
As he recovered from the mauling he was given, Cole left being lonely, afraid eating his dust,.and threw a life of crime and violence in the trash. He now lives a very good life and is a very good person. 

Founding Fathers

               

America is the greatest country on earth. We have a game where people have to survive 30 days on an island where people have already lived for 60 years. We complain when our phones don’t connect to the internet in three seconds. We throw away food, complain that our houses suck and watch the Kardashians live their lives. We are ranked 1^st in Olympic Gold Medals, We are ranked 31^st in education and we are in debt $13,000,000,0000. If you’re in a hole, stop digging.

                Our Founding Fathers just rose from the dead. They are slowly walking towards our class room. This is what I would have to say to them. Four Score and 156 ago our Founding Fathers brought forth a new nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. It seems to me that we didn’t really stick with the all men are created equal thing. I mean, America only lost 618,000 U.S. lives in a war over it.  I don’t know how we manage to make the problem of racism last 151 years but some people are just overachievers.

                By now you have probably figured out that I am being a little sarcastic but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong. Don’t get me wrong though, I love this country with all my heart. I love that we have free speech and most of all I love that we have freedom, but that does not mean we are perfect. We have to understand that to get this country back on its feet.

               

 

Cause and Effect

Author's Note: This piece is about the cause and affect  in the story. I wrote this to demonstrate my understanding of cause and affect. If you plan on reading the book don't read this entry because it has a spoiler in it.

An autistic boy who is a genius in mathematics but clueless when it comes to human emotion just happens to find a dead dog on someones lawn. His name is Christopher and he loves dogs so he feels caring towards it. He decides that he could find out who murdered the dog.

In the beginning of the book Christopher's father seems to be a very good man, but throughout the book we find out otherwise. He has done something horrible to cause Christopher to go into a psychological plum-it. He thinks that his mother is dead but he will soon find out otherwise.

As the investigation of the dogs death goes on Christopher is not only finding clues about the dead he is also finding clues about the living. For example, one day when his father isn't home he is snooping around and happens to find letters from his mother. They were sent just a few months ago. How could this be? His mother, is still alive and his father has kept that from him.

When he finds out about his mother he is sick to his stomach. He pukes all over himself, he nearly faints. His father comes home and cleans him up. Then he explains what happened and that causes Christopher to run away. Technically he didn't run away, he actually ran to something. His mothers house.Then his mothers new husband is shocked and everything falls apart. Finally their family moves back into one city. This goes to show you that one secret can have a very big affect on everything.

Conflict and Resolution

Author's Note: This piece is about the conflict and resolution in the story. I wrote this to demonstrate my understanding of the conflict and resolution.

A young boy named Petey with cerebral palsy is misunderstood in an age where people have little to no information about disabilities.. It is a very sad book and it i s about Petey's life and his struggles.I think the main conflict is that no body really cares about him and no body understands his condition. Everybody thinks he is insane when truthfully all he needs is a little help and some nurturing.

Petey does make some friends along the way but for some reason they always seem to abandon him. He is an outcast. He is in an asylum with full grown men and he is the only kid. Until one day a boy named Calvin comes into the asylum. They become best friends in the world, until one day Calvin is brutally taken away from Petey.

Believe it or not Petey did fall in love.Her name is Cassie. She is a beautiful petite girl who is helping around the asylum to pay for college.She becomes great friends with Petey such good friends until the point where Petey falls head over heels in love with her. One day she leaves out of the blue. His heart is shattered, just like glass when you drop it.

Sunset

The sun is 93,000,000 million miles away yet it can still have such an amazing affect on someone. Two years ago my father and I took an unforgettable trip out West. We stopped at Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana and many other beautiful states. I loved all of them like they were my children. They all were amazing in their own way. Wyoming with is beautiful wildlife, South Dakota and it’s amazing mountains but one of the most amazing things I saw on the trip was the sunset in the Badlands.

As we ended our journey in South Dakota we decided to head into the badlands. The day was coming to the end and the stars were waiting to shine. My dad saw a little hill and wanted to watch the sunset. We got to the base of the hill and almost had to look straight up in order to see the top. My dad and I hiked our way up a steep hill with slippery rocks trickling down after every step we took.  Then we got to a wall and I had to jump up with my dad’s hands at my feet to push me up.

We got to the top and the sun was extraordinarily elegant. All that energy, all the heat and all the light just glowing and blazing with such a fierce force. For five minutes the blazing fireball just slowly fell down behind the beautiful mountains of the desert. As it glided down behind the mountains illuminating the sky with shades of purple, yellow and orange. We didn’t say a word, we just watched. It had been unlike anything I had ever seen in my life.

As we went into our new rental car I realized something. I see a sunset every day yet it never looks that beautiful. Sure there aren’t any mountains and you aren’t on top of one but if you could take just five minutes out of your day and witness something majestic, it would be worth it. It’s just amazing to think that this occurs 365 days a year yet you don’t appreciate it. If you do look at the sunset today I promise you all your worries and stress will slip away for five minutes. You will feel like you are on top of the world, and the view from the top is magnificent.

     Touching Spirit Bear

Alone and afraid a young boy beats up a defenseless 15 year old. He is immediately sent to a detention center and his parole officer asks him about a justice program that would allow him to avoid prison. The young boy says yes and is sent to a remote island for a whole year. He takes a spiritual journey in order to become less angry at the world.He finds out many things about the world and himself.

"All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle."  Author Unknown

         I like this quote a lot. To me it means that in a world of darkness a single light can defeat it. Any amount of darkness can't defeat the smallest amount of light. I think it also means you have a choice. You can either go with the crowd or you can be a shining light and defeat the temptation to do so. I'd probably go with being a light.
 
          I agree with this quote because no matter what the darkness does it can't blow out a candle. To me it means that in the end everything will be O.K.If you are a leader and you are strong you will be able to make it through anything and everything. All the evil and the chaos in the world can't hurt you if you are a shining light.
  This quote reminds me of The Dark Knight because it basically explains the movie. Batman lives in a world of darkness and decides to do something about it. He fights the darkness but its ironic because his name is the Dark Knight. That movie totally goes along with this quote. Batman is the light in the end because he always wins.
